Is Kamurocho in Stranger Than Heaven?

Yes. The 1965 chapter is set in Kamurocho, and Anime News Network describes it as the fictional neighborhood based on Kabukicho that is a constant setting of RGG Studio's Yakuza and Like a Dragon games. SEGA's store screenshots show the district's lit gate. In the clip, from IGN's Oct 21, 2026 preview, Michael Higham says the story leads into where the Tojo Clan began, in 1960s Kamurocho.

Yokoyama said at Tokyo Game Show 2026 that the Tojo Clan and places such as Kamurocho appear, yet it is not a series entry. The question is set out on Is Stranger Than Heaven a Yakuza Game?.

What is the tremendous secret?

Not known. Yokoyama teased it in the May 6, 2026 Xbox Presents and showed no gameplay of the era, CGMagazine and Xbox Wire reported. SEGA had not said more as of Nov 3, 2026. The same broadcast opened with Makoto Daito founding the Tojo Clan, the Kamurocho syndicate of the later games, but RGG has not said whether the secret has anything to do with it.

Who is in Kamurocho in 1965?

SEGA's Sep 25, 2026 character release introduces Kimura, played by Daisuke Shiba of the comedy duo Mogurider, an easygoing nightclub worker in Kamurocho. By 1965 Makoto Daito is fifty years older than the boy of the prologue; Yu Shirota said his 1960s voice sounds clearly different from the teenager's (Game Informer, Oct 21, 2026). Director Mikinobu Abe said the 1965 Shinjuku ending was fixed from the start of development. Everyone else is on Characters and Cast.

The real Shinjuku in the 1960s

Real Kabukicho was only established in 1948, named for a kabuki theater in a neighborhood plan that was never built. After the Anti-Prostitution Act of 1957, many in the sex trade moved into it. Through the 1960s young people and artists filled Shinjuku's jazz and classical music cafes, and underground theater played in a red tent at Hanazono Shrine, Nippon.com's history of the district says. In 1965, the game's year, the Yodobashi Purification Plant west of Shinjuku Station moved away; its site later filled with skyscrapers, among them the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

What is not known

As of Nov 3, 2026: the secret, what Makoto is doing in 1965, which of the earlier characters are still alive, how Kamurocho of 1965 compares with the later games' version, and whether any Like a Dragon characters appear. The story so far is on Story.
