Atami 1951
Atami in Shizuoka, in 1951, is the fourth era of Stranger Than Heaven, a postwar seaside resort where Makoto Daito meets the American singer Suzy Day. As of Nov 3, 2026 SEGA had shown very little of it.
Atami, Shizuoka, in 1951 is the fourth of Stranger Than Heaven's five eras, described on Steam as a bustling seaside getaway "synonymous with tourism in postwar Japan." It is the era where Makoto Daito meets Suzy Day, an ambitious singer played by Tori Kelly, while American influence spreads through the country. That is nearly all SEGA has said: as of Nov 3, 2026 Atami had no In-Depth Look video and no preview had played it, so this page is short on purpose. The clip is from the Xbox Presents broadcast: Tori Kelly speaks about her character, Suzy, between shots of Suzy on stage.

What is shown of Atami?
Very little. Xbox Wire's recap of the May 6, 2026 broadcast describes Atami as less urban than the earlier cities, known for cherry blossoms and scenic views, at a time when American influence brings new trends in language, music and fashion to Japan. There Makoto meets Suzy, whose show business rise, the official cast page says, begins when she meets him. Her story is on Suzy Day.
The cast page also lists the Veiled Stranger, played by Cordell Broadus, "a man stationed in postwar Japan" who has been searching for someone. SEGA does not say which city he appears in, so whether he belongs to Atami is not known.
SEGA's screenshot of a hot spring shopping street does not name the town it shows.
The Hotel New Akao anachronism
Atami is where RGG Studio's most quoted liberty with history sits. Executive director Masayoshi Yokoyama told Denfaminicogamer, as AUTOMATON reported on Jun 23, 2026, that the Hotel New Akao appears in the 1951 chapter although the real hotel opened in 1954, as an example of telling "convincing lies" rather than strict history. More on Five Eras and Cities.
The real Atami
Atami is a seaside hot spring town in Shizuoka. Its springs drew bathers as early as the Nara period (710 to 794), and Tokugawa Ieyasu valued them enough to try to recreate the onsen in Edo. The Japan National Tourism Organization notes that Atami Castle is not historic: it was built in 1959 as a tourist attraction, eight years after the game's era.
What is not known
As of Nov 3, 2026: what Makoto does in Atami, who else lives there, what activities it has, whether a story trailer or In-Depth Look will cover it before launch, and how the Veiled Stranger fits. The story so far is on Story.
