Minami 1943
Minami in Osaka, in 1943, is the third era of Stranger Than Heaven, a wartime entertainment district including Sotenbori where Makoto Daito and Yu Shinjo go into show business and the singer Keiko Shirai, played by Ado, is the star.
Minami, Osaka, in 1943 is the third of Stranger Than Heaven's five eras: SEGA describes a city "offering energy, glamour, vibrant atmosphere, and the world of showbiz" as new cultural influences flow in, while "an uneasy atmosphere" gives rise to darker undercurrents. The store page calls it the biggest entertainment district in western Japan, "set against the ever-rising tension of a world at war." Here Makoto Daito reunites with Yu Shinjo and the two go into show business, the district includes Sotenbori, the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) series' version of Dotonbori, and the songstress of wartime Osaka is Keiko Shirai, played and sung by Ado. The clip is SEGA's In-Depth Look at Minami.

What happens in Minami?
By 1943 Makoto is somebody. Game Informer's October preview found that locals greet him with smiles because of his work in both organized crime and show business. He starts a promotion company with Yu Shinjo, negotiates with business owners for billboard space to advertise, and stages a show at a local theater, choosing the program and performers before taking part in the performance. Game Informer noted that although the era is wartime, the story stays on Makoto's personal life rather than historical events. In the clip, VGC's Oct 21, 2026 Osaka footage of the pre-release build, Makoto negotiates for a billboard spot.
Underneath, the city is contested: Xbox Wire's recap of the May 6, 2026 broadcast says yakuza and the Italian Mafia compete for dominance in the shadows while new entertainment thrives on the surface. The rest of the story is on Story.
Who is Keiko Shirai?
The official cast page calls Keiko Shirai the songstress of wartime Osaka. She is played by the singer Ado, who, IGN reported, both voices her and sings her era-appropriate songs in the game. More on Keiko Shirai. In the clip, from IGN's Oct 21, 2026 preview, Michael Higham describes Ado voicing the character and singing her songs.
Is Sotenbori in Stranger Than Heaven?
Yes. IGN's Oct 21, 2026 preview says Minami includes Sotenbori, RGG Studio's fictional Dotonbori from the Yakuza games. How much of its later layout appears has not been detailed. The clip is that preview.
SEGA's screenshot of a neon street and a lit tower does not name the district it shows.
What can you do in Minami?
Show business is the heart of it: the theater show above is the Showbiz system at work. Xbox Wire also listed target shooting in Osaka. Osaka was the third encounter of the Summer Game Fest 2026 combat demo, fought with weapons; Game Informer's writer needed seven tries to beat its final swordsman with patient parries. Every activity is on Minigames and Side Content. The clip is VGC's Oct 21, 2026 Osaka footage of the pre-release build: Keiko Shirai's solo show is set up with its stage effects and musicians before the curtain rises.
The real Minami
Minami, "the South," is Osaka's old commoners' entertainment quarter, centered on Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi and reaching Namba Station, Nihonbashi and Horie. After the Dotonbori canal was dug in 1615, theaters rose along it, and the name comes from "Nanchi," the area's five geisha districts; Nippon.com says Minami drew tradespeople and common folk where Kita drew samurai. The game, by its makers' account, is not trying to be accurate to its period (Five Eras and Cities).
