A live-action Stranger Than Heaven film is in development at Netflix: SEGA and Netflix announced it on Sep 14, 2026, as part of a deal that also covers a Crazy Taxi film and Sonic adaptations. SEGA head producer Toru Nakahara is the film's producer. As of Nov 3, 2026, that is nearly all that is known: no director, writer, cast, studio partner or release date has been announced, and there is no trailer.

Is there a Stranger Than Heaven movie?
Yes, one is in development. The joint SEGA and Netflix announcement says "a live-action film will bring a new lens to this epic world" and sums up the story as a foreigner rising from destitute stranger to feared yakuza to entertainment tycoon, which matches the game's own fifty-year arc for Makoto Daito (see Story). It came four months before the game itself, which is out on Jan 15, 2027.
Who is making it?
Toru Nakahara, Head Producer at SEGA, is named as producer and called it "a badass action drama". SEGA President and COO Shuji Utsumi and Netflix's Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction and Transmedia, also spoke for the deal; Riegg said it lets Netflix work across three different eras of SEGA's catalog. No film studio, director or screenwriter was named, and the announcement does not say whether RGG Studio or Masayoshi Yokoyama are involved.
Will the game's cast be in it?
Not known. The game's cast, from Yu Shirota as Makoto Daito to Snoop Dogg as Orpheus, is listed on Characters and Cast, but nothing in the announcement says any of them will appear in the film. Casting news, if it comes, will be added here with its date.
