Wishlists and Popularity

Stranger Than Heaven passed 1 million wishlists across all platforms by Sep 2, 2026, and SEGA calls it RGG Studio's most wishlisted title of all time before launch. SEGA posted the news on Steam on Sep 2 and in a press release dated Sep 3, more than four months before the Jan 15, 2027 release. SEGA gave no wishlist figures for any other RGG game, so the comparison rests on SEGA's word alone, and no newer count has been published as of Nov 3, 2026.

How many wishlists does Stranger Than Heaven have?

Over 1 million as of SEGA's announcement on Sep 2, 2026. SEGA's words are that it has "surpassed 1 million wishlists across all platforms" and is "RGG Studio's most wishlisted title of all time prior to launch". The release, attributed to SEGA and RGG Studio, lists Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PS5 but does not split the figure by store. Famitsu reported the same milestone in Japan. Wishlists opened on May 6, 2026, so the million came in about four months.

By the measures published so far, it is RGG Studio's best start, but measures are few before release. Inven Global notes that the claim is "most wishlisted prior to launch" and that SEGA published no figure for any other RGG game, so it cannot be compared with Infinite Wealth or Yakuza 0. A wishlist is not a sale, and no pre-order count has been published. There are no reviews before the game's release; see Previews for what critics said of the preview builds.

What SEGA says in its financial results

SEGA Sammy's results for the year ended March 2026 projected game revenue up 41.8% for the year to March 2027 on four major releases, naming Stranger Than Heaven among them (then dated "Winter 2026"). At its June 2026 management meeting, SEGA Sammy presented it as a flagship title for the fiscal year. No sales forecast in units for the game has been published as of Nov 3, 2026. For scale, the same June meeting put Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the series' last numbered game, at 2.05 million sold.
